Lexington Medical Center Employees Support The Community Through UEF

May 7, 2013

LEXINGTON, SC – May 7, 2013 – The Lexington Medical Center Foundation is excited to announce the most successful Universal Employee Fund Campaign to date. Lexington Medical Center employees pledged more than $685,000 this year. This year 3,284 employees participated in the campaign. More than 45% of departments had 100% of their employees participate in the campaign. This internal fundraising campaign gives hospital employees the opportunity to contribute funds to assist fellow employees in times of hardship. Funds are also designated for items or services to enhance patient care in addition to supporting scholarships.

This is the 20th anniversary of the UEF Campaign. In addition to supporting community needs, funds from UEF have been used to help employees get back on their feet after some of the most difficult situations people face. Brenda Wannamaker is a medical assistant at a local physician’s office. Brenda and her son were not home when her house caught fire and burned downed in early 2013, but she lost everything – childhood treasures and pictures, clothes and furniture, and her beloved dog. Through the Lexington Medical Center Foundation UEF Fund Brenda and her family were able to get back on their feet and start working towards a new home.  Brenda says, “I never thought this would happen, but I’m thankful that this help was available to me. The office I work for recently became part of Lexington Medical Center so I hadn’t signed up yet to donate to the UEF before my house burned down, but I was excited to sign up this year. I hope everyone will give to the Foundation because you never know when you will need a little bit of help.”
