Lexington One names Holland Pelion High AD and football coach

LEXINGTON, SC – At the April 21, 2015 regular monthly meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees, the board approved the hire of Dann R. Holland Jr. as Pelion High School athletic director and head football coach.

Holland currently serves as head football coach, assistant athletic director and seventh- and eighth-grade social studies teacher at Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School in Orangeburg Consolidated School District Four. He replaces Ben Freeman, who plans to retire effective June 30, 2015.

Holland has 13 years of coaching and teaching experience. He began his career in 2000 as junior economics and government teacher offensive/defensive line coach at Orangeburg Preparatory School in Orangeburg and was later promoted to varsity football offensive coordinator.

In 2008, he moved to Pinewood Preparatory School in Summerville where he served as senior economics and government teacher and varsity football offensive coordinator until being promoted to head varsity coach and head speed and strength coach while continuing to teach senior economics and government.

In 2011, he moved to Guinyard-Butler Middle and Barnwell High schools in Barnwell School District 45 where he taught seventh-grade social studies and served as assistant varsity football coach and defensive line coach.

This is his third year at Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School after moving there in 2012. While there, Holland led the team to back-to-back upper state championships and two Class A Division II state titles and had a 32-9 win/loss record.

Holland received the 2013 and 2012 Region 4-A Co-Coach of the Year award, The Times and Democrat’s 2013 and 2012 Coach of the Year, High School Sports Report’s 2013 Class A Coach of the Year, and has served as offensive coordinator of the 2010 South Team for the SCISA North/South All Star Game, 2009 offensive/defensive line coach for the SCIS/NCISAA Shrine Classic, 2007 offensive/defensive line coach for the SCIS North/South All Star Game, and 2001 defensive line coach for the SCISA North/South All Star Game.

Holland holds a Bachelor of Science in history from Charleston Southern University.
