LEXINGTON, S.C. — During the August 5, 2016 special called meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees, the board approved the promotion of Wendy C. Spears to assistant administrator.

Spears will serve as assistant administrator at Pelion Elementary, where she was a fourth-grade teacher from 2014 until the summer of 2016. In addition to her classroom duties, she facilitated parent workshops, created a schoolwide attendance program to improve overall attendance, and led teacher professional learning and instructional technology sessions.

A Gilbert High School graduate, Spears previously taught fourth grade at Sandhills Elementary in Lexington School District Four, from 2007 to 2014. She was nominated for teacher of the year at both Sandhills Elementary and Pelion Elementary, once in 2013 and again in 2015.

Spears is a certified SAFE-T Evaluator and certified Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention and Advancement (CERRA) mentor teacher.

After receiving an associate degree in business management from Midlands Technical College, Spears earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Education in educational administration from the University of South Carolina.

Spears replaces Wendy West, who was promoted to principal of Pelion Elementary.
