Lexington One School District promotes Cooper to Director of Student Services

LEXINGTON, SC – During the April 25, 2017 regular monthly meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees, the board approved the administration’s recommendation that R. Clark Cooper join Central Services’ Student Services Office as Director of Student Services. Cooper, who currently serves as principal of Pelion High School, succeeds Jeffrey F. Caldwell, who was promoted earlier this year to the position of Chief Student Services Officer.

Cooper began his teaching career as a science teacher and head track and field coach at Pelion High School in 2002. He was promoted to assistant administrator in 2005, to assistant principal in 2006 and to principal in 2012. While serving as assistant principal, he also held a position as one of the district’s hearing officers in Student Services.

As a consultant for the South Carolina Department of Education, he served as STAT Federal Priority School Coach in 2015, External Review Team Member in 2014 and team leader for the High Schools That Work TAV and TRV initiative.

Cooper holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology Education from The Citadel and a Master of Arts in Business Education and a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of South Carolina. He holds superintendent, secondary principal, secondary supervisor, biology and science certifications.

A member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, South Carolina High School League Legislative Assembly, and Palmetto State Teachers Association, he currently serves as president of the Secondary Principals Division of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators, as well as a SCASA Executive Committee Board Member.

Last year he served as SC ETV American Graduate Champion and South Carolina High School League 3A Constitution Committee Representative, while the Lexington District One Education Office Professionals named Cooper its 2014–2015 Administrator of the Year.
