Liz McMillan to chair 2017 Go Red For Women Luncheon

March 8, 2017

The American Heart Association is pleased to announce Elizabeth (Liz) McMillan, Executive Director ofGamecock IMG Sports Marketing, as the Chairwoman of the 2017 Midlands Go Red For Women campaign.  McMillan is an active member in the local community, serving in the past for numerous organizations such as the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, Girl Scouts of the Midlands, Trenholm Road United Methodist Church and many more.

As Chair of the 2016-2017 Midlands Go Red For Women campaign, McMillan will lead a part of the national movement designed to empower women to take charge of their health and collectively wipe out heart disease and stroke. Efforts made during the year-long movement are celebrated during the Annual Go Red For Women Luncheon in May.  The funds raised will be used for research and education to help reduce disability and death from cardiovascular disease and stroke in the Midlands.

“I am proud to lead the corporate and community outreach efforts to raise funds for heart disease and stroke research and education. I am excited to see members of the community come together to support this cause,” said McMillan.

Nationally, heart disease claims the lives of more than 460,000 women each year and kills approximately one woman every minute. It is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined. One in three females in the U.S has some form of cardiovascular disease, but more than 80 percent is preventable through education and research. In South Carolina, an estimated 13 women die from heart disease and stroke each day.

The Midlands Go Red For Women Luncheon will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the University of South Carolina Alumni Center. The event includes a heart-healthy expo, educational breakout sessions, a key note speaker and a seated lunch. There is also opportunity for attendees to meet passionate and influential women in the community committed to the Go Red movement. Funds raised from the luncheon will support heart disease and stroke awareness programs and research.

We encourage Midlands women to attend this year’s luncheon to learn how to take steps to lead healthier lives and reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke. For more information about Go Red For Women, call 803-806-3091 or visit midlandsscgoredluncheon.heart.org.
