Local BBQ Competition Team Takes Grand Champion Title at Charleston Competition

Everyone likes good barbecue, and a local competition team has bragging rights after competing in the Triple B Cowboy Challenge and BBQ Throwdown event last weekend.

Hey Good Buddy Competition Barbecue Team (HGB) of Laurens was awarded Grand Champion at the Triple B Cowboy Challenge and BBQ Throwdown. The competition barbecue team placed second in the Chicken and Ribs category and third in Pulled Pork. The 19-team event was sponsored by the Charleston Exchange Club and held at the Exchange Park in Ladson, South Carolina on Saturday, March 19.

This competition was the first time in 18 months that the full team of Hey Good Buddy came together for a competition. HGB Competition Barbecue team members include Pitmasters Bryan C. Able and Homer Elwood and team members, Toni Able and Annette Elwood.

“I truly enjoy cooking barbecue. You mention barbecue to someone and it always brings a smile to their face,” said Homer Elwood. “We’ve made all of great friends over a plate of barbecue!”

The team has been together and cooking up tasty barbecue for over ten years.  In 2018 the Southern BBQ Network named them “Cook Team of the Year.”  The mission of the SBN is to preserve southern barbecue through qualified trained judges while also improving communities through supporting charitable events.
