Local leaders, lawmakers to participate in March for Meals Community Champions Week March 21-25

Champions will deliver Meals on Wheels to draw attention to the issue of senior hunger

Several Midlands lawmakers and community leaders will deliver Meals on Wheels during the week of March 21 as part of the nationwide March for Meals Community Champions Week.

March for Meals is a national campaign led by Meals on Wheels America every year in March to raise awareness of senior hunger, and to foster support for local Meals on Wheels programs.

“During the hour they spend delivering meals, these Community Champions will meet some local residents who spent a lifetime in the Midlands raising their families, working and giving back to the community,” said Senior Resources Executive Director Pam Dukes. “Now it is our turn to make sure their daily needs are met so they can maintain their independence.”

The following local leaders will participate in Community Champions Week:

  • Columbia City Councilwoman Tameika Isaac-Devine (Tuesday, March 22)
  • Town of Eastover Mayor Geraldine Robinson (Tuesday, March 22)
  • Town of Blythewood Mayor Michael Ross (Wednesday, March 23)
  • Richland County Councilwoman Julie-Ann Dixon (Thursday, March 24)
  • Yvette Rowland, Midlands Regional Director for the Office of U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (Thursday, March 24)

The media are invited to cover these meal deliveries, although the schedule is subject to change and additional Community Champions may be added. To arrange coverage, please contact Communications Coordinator Bridget Winston at [email protected] or 803-252-7734 x253.
