Local organizations plan community food day events

CHARLESTON, SC In celebration of National Food Day on October 24, Lowcountry organizations are coming together to offer fun and educational activities throughout the Charleston area.  All events are open to the public and family friendly.

 Schedule of Activities

 Friday, October 23, 4 – 6 p.m.: Lowcountry Food Day Kick-off (MUSC Urban Farm, 29 Bee St.)

Join the MUSC Office of Health Promotion and our Food Day partners to celebrate the start of the 2015 Lowcountry Food Day Crawl. This event will include music, refreshments and an interactive program featuring a cooking demo. A short program announcing MUSC’s commitment to building a healthy community through the Imagine 2020 Plan is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and will include remarks by MUSC President David Cole, M.D.

Saturday, October 24, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Food Day Festival (Marion Square, 329 Meeting St.)

Visit multiple interactive booths celebrating National Food Day and cheer on your favorite media personality in the Celebrity Water Challenge. Explore this year’s theme, “Toward a Greener Diet: Choices to Protect our Water Sources”

Sunday, October 25: 12 – 6 p.m.:  (Revelry Brewing, 10 Conroy St.)

Join the Block Party, in celebration of Revelry Brewing’s one-year anniversary, which will benefit the Green Heart Project.  The Green Heart Project is a community-based volunteer organization that integrates school farms as outdoor classrooms in an effort to teach students the virtues of hard work, respect and success and reiterate classroom curriculum while connecting students and volunteers to fresh, healthy, locally-grown produce.
