Local survivor and CEO leads 2016 Upstate Heart Walk

March 10, 2016

GREENVILLE, SC – Herb Dew, CEO of Human Technologies Incorporated, is serving as the chair for the American Heart Association 2016 Upstate Heart Walk. Mr. Dew, who is also a survivor of sudden congestive heart failure, is leading an Executive Leadership Team comprised of Upstate professionals to raise $625,000 dollars to help prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.

“As a survivor, it’s difficult not to become passionate about this cause” said Herb Dew. “Research funded by the American Heart Association essentially saved my life. I am honored to lead the Upstate in fighting this killer disease in our community and hope to make a lasting difference in the health and wellbeing of our
citizens.”

The Upstate Heart Walk is an opportunity for people to initiate changes in their health through walking, while raising funds to help prevent the No. 1 and No. 5 killers in America, heart disease and stroke. The annual event is a non-competitive, 3 mile walk in which teams are created by employees from local companies, along with friends and family members of all ages.

“I encourage everyone in the Upstate to get involved in this year’s Heart Walk” said Herb Dew. “By forming or joining a fundraising team, you are fighting against cardiovascular disease and raising awareness”.

Research has shown walking is the single most effective form of exercise to achieve heart health. The benefits of walking and moderate physical activity for as little as 30 minutes each day can help reduce the risk of heart disease.

This year’s event will take place on April 9, downtown Greenville, and welcomes over 5,000 walkers from Upstate medical groups, businesses, and local communities to participate. The Upstate Heart Walk is nationally sponsored by Subway Restaurants and locally sponsored by Draexlmaier.
