Long-time special education educator Linda Hill receives the 2024 Barbara Stone Community Leadership Award

May 28, 2024

The Barbara Stone Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on supporting, and creating, visionary and creative programs and initiatives for individuals with disabilities, presented Linda Hill with the 2024 Barbara Stone Community Leadership Award. The award was created in 2022 to honor a contemporary leader with the same commitment and spirit as the late Barbara Stone.

Throughout Hill’s tenure as a special education teacher and administrator with Greenville County Schools, Hill has consistently demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the betterment of the disability community. She retired in 2020 after working in special education for 40 years in Greenville County Schools.

“From a young age, Linda has been committed to positive change and creating a meaningful impact in the lives of those around her,” said Lara Ceisel, executive director of the Barbara Stone Foundation. “It was an honor and privilege to present Linda with this year’s Barbara Stone Community Leadership Award and recognize her work. She is an important voice and always found ways to better serve her students.”

As a recipient of the 2024 Barbara Stone Community Leadership Award, Hill received a check for a non-profit of her choice. Hill chose Camp Spearhead, a camp in Greenville County that Barbara Stone helped start in 1968, which offers individuals with disabilities a one-week-long residential summer camp experience and a 10-week season of weekend programs in the fall and spring. Hill began volunteering at Camp Spearhead when she was 15 years old.
