Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott was elected earlier this month to serve on the executive board of the Alexandria, VA-based Major County Sheriffs of America (MCSA). As one of seven executive officers on the 11-member board, Lott will serve as executive secretary.

“This is critical time for law enforcement, nationwide,” says Lott. “And the necessity for national organizations like MCSA, through which we can continue to coordinate efforts by sharing information and best practices going forward, has never been greater.”

According to their mission statement, “The Major County Sheriffs of America is a professional law enforcement association of the largest elected sheriffs’ offices representing counties or parishes with a 500,000 population or greater.”

MCSA member-offices and departments represent over 120-million Americans.

In Feb. 2020, Lott was also named to the board of the National Sheriff’s Association.
