Love and Kindness on Full Display in Laurens County

January 18, 2021

It’s been one month since the fire at the Landau Apartments in Clinton and the house fire in Joanna.

People across the county stepped up to help the displaced families with donations of clothing, toys and household furnishings.  Pop-up donation sites were created, and an event was held at First Baptist Church on December 23rd to bring some Christmas joy to the children (including a visit from Santa).

With a fire of that magnitude, we needed to do more. The families would need financial assistance to help them through the next few weeks and even months.

The LaurensCountyBUZZ created the Landau Fire Fund and put the word out that donations could be made to the fund at Arthur State Bank. Once again, Laurens County residents and businesses demonstrated the very best of who we are.

In just four days the fund raised over $30,000 and each family displaced by the fires were provided with a distribution from the fund just before Christmas.  The fund was also able to contribute significantly to the cost of the funeral for the four-year-old girl who died in the fire

Donations continued to come in.  To-date the Landau Fire Fund has raised $49,829.00. The families have received a second distribution from the fund. The account will be closed out at the end of January and any remaining funds will be distributed at that time.

Thank you, Laurens County for coming together when it matters most and showing love and generosity for your neighbors. The recipients of your kindness were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support.
