Loves gives: Central SC Habitat receives $20,000 gift from “The Cheerful Giver”

Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity has received a $20,000 unrestricted gift from an anonymous donor known as The Cheerful Giver, made through Central Carolina Community Foundation. The gift comes as the organization is underway on two home builds in Richland County, with plans for families to be in their home for Christmas.
This generosity supports Habitat’s mission of putting God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. It will help advance affordable homeownership in Richland, Lexington and Fairfield counties.
The message “Love Gives” draws on John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.” The verse connects love with giving, inspiring generosity that responds to our neighbors’ needs with compassion and action.
“‘Love gives’ is a beautiful expression of the faith that inspires Habitat’s mission,” said Moryah Jackson, CEO of Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity. “God’s love calls us to love our neighbors through action. The Cheerful Giver has answered that call with generosity that helps families build a more secure future. What a meaningful way to celebrate the season: helping our neighbors begin new traditions in a place of their own.”
Each Habitat home represents a partnership among future homeowners, volunteers, donors, congregations and community organizations. Their contributions of time, resources and skills turn a shared commitment to serving neighbors into a place a family can call home.
The unrestricted gift allows Central SC Habitat to direct resources where they are needed most, supporting its work today and strengthening its capacity to serve more families in the future.
Habitat homebuyers purchase their homes with affordable mortgages, and monthly mortgage payments set below 30% of household income. They also complete financial education and homeownership preparation, equipping them for the responsibilities and opportunities of owning a home.
Since 1985, Central SC Habitat has built 291 homes, and 111 homeowners have fully paid off their mortgages. These milestones reflect decades of families and community partners building together.
As Christmas approaches, Central SC Habitat invites individuals, businesses, congregations and community groups to put love into action through volunteering, financial support and prayer. Together, these contributions help more neighbors build a foundation for the future.
