Lowcountry Council of Governments receives Community Foundation of the Lowcountry Grant to empower Workforce Development
January 6, 2025The Lowcountry Council of Governments (LCOG) announced that it has received a generous grant of $100,000 from the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry (CFL) to support Workforce Development Program, “Training for Individuals with Barriers to Employment.” This funding will enable LCOG to implement targeted training programs that address employment barriers, equipping individuals with the skills and resources needed to secure sustainable jobs and achieve economic independence.
The program, scheduled to run from December 2, 2024, to December 31, 2026, will provide occupational skills training and on-the-job training opportunities. It is designed to serve a diverse demographic, including unemployed and underemployed individuals, veterans, individuals with disabilities, older workers, and youth. By focusing on marginalized populations, this program seeks to promote equity, reduce unemployment, and stimulate economic growth across Southern Beaufort County.
“This grant represents a significant investment in our community’s future,” said Sabrena Graham, Executive Director of LCOG. “The support from CFL will help us bridge skills gaps, enhance job readiness, and provide life-changing opportunities for individuals facing employment challenges. We are grateful for CFL’s support in advancing workforce development in our region.”
The program’s anticipated outcomes include measurable skill gains, credential achievements, and increased employment rates. Long-term impacts will include stable employment, career advancement, and contributions to the local economy, benefiting the entire community.
In collaboration with local businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies, LCOG will ensure that training programs align with the needs of the regional labor market.
