Lowcountry Food Bank receives $11,000 donation from the Darden Foundation to Fight Hunger

September 28, 2020

The Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB), a member of the Feeding America network, announced today a $11,000 grant from The Darden Foundation to help provide hunger relief to Lowcountry families. The overall food insecurity rate in the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina that the LCFB serves has increased by 58% since the COVID-19 pandemic began, which has increased the total number of neighbors in our state to 233,000 people who face hunger every day. The increase in food insecurity for children is even more devastating at 76%, resulting in 75,000 children who do not have consistent access to the nutritious food they need to live healthy, active lives.

“Darden’s philanthropy makes a real difference in the lives of our neighbors and friends who struggle – often invisibly – with the reality of hunger and the lack of access to nutritious foods – especially fresh produce,” said Pat Walker, LCFB President & CEO. “The Darden Foundation’s donation will help create 30,000 meals for children, families and seniors who struggle to put food on the table.”

The Darden Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity in communities across the United States. Their commitment to help is demonstrated through their partnership with Feeding America and its network of 200 food banks across the nation.

Feeding America has worked alongside The Darden Foundation for eight years in the fight to end hunger. Thanks to their ongoing support, the Feeding America network has been able to help provide even more meals to families in need.
