Lowcountry Food Bank receives $29,100 donation from the Arby’s Foundation to Fight Hunger

October 21, 2020

The Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB), a member of the Feeding America network, announced today two grants from the Arby’s Foundation.

A $27,100 grant award supports the LCFB BackPack Buddies program, which helps alleviate weekend hunger for schoolchildren in high-need schools throughout coastal South Carolina. The award comes from the Arby’s Foundation in-restaurant fundraising program, the Make a Difference Campaign, which supports organizations dedicated to providing children the future they deserve. Local Arby’s restaurant teams nominate nonprofits in their own communities, strengthening the Arby’s Foundation commitment to give back locally. This award helps more than 2,000 children in our community.

Arby’s Foundation also awarded $2,000 to the LCFB to support its COVID-19 food response efforts, which further ensures that children and their families do not have to worry about where their next meal will come from during the pandemic.

The overall food insecurity rate in the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina that the LCFB serves has increased by 58% since the COVID-19 pandemic began, which has increased the total number of neighbors in our state to 233,000 people who face hunger every day. The increase in food insecurity for children is even more devastating with a 76% increase, resulting in 75,000 children who do not have consistent access to the nutritious food they need to live healthy, active lives.
