Lowcountry Food Bank receives $435,000 donation from Publix Super Market Charities
October 7, 2026Lowcountry Food Bank today announced it received a $435,000 donation from Publix Super Market Charities to purchase two, much needed refrigerated trucks to deliver food to neighbors. Funds will also be used to purchase an electric forklift and to make technical upgrades for the organization’s food distribution warehouse. Lowcountry Food Bank serves more than 200,000 neighbors who face food insecurity in the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina.
Unfortunately, food insecurity across the Lowcountry Food Bank service area rose by more than 55% between 2023 and 2025. Nearly 73,000 additional neighbors are facing food insecurity across the 10 coastal South Carolina counties the organization serves. The number of individuals facing food insecurity in the region grew from over 184,000 to more than 204,000 (representing about 13% of the population), reaching a 20-year high. Publix Charities’ donation will help increase food capacity and meet this elevated need. Publix Charities has given a total of more than $2.1 million to Lowcountry Food Bank since 2003.
“Publix and Publix Charities have been instrumental in our mission to unite our community in pursuit of equitable, dignified, and consistent access to food, providing not only vital funding and nutritious food, but also the critical logistics and trucks needed to deliver hope directly to our neighbors,” said Nick Osborne, Lowcountry Food Bank President and CEO. “We are profoundly grateful for their long-standing partnership and unwavering dedication to feeding our community.”
“As a food retailer, we believe our greatest opportunity to give back is helping feed our neighbors in need — a responsibility we take to heart,” said Publix CEO Kevin Murphy. “We are grateful to Publix Charities for its generous support and working with food banks throughout the Southeast to provide nourishment to our communities.”
The $435,000 donation from Publix Charities to Lowcountry Food Bank is one of several donations made this year to help provide food and other essential support to people facing hunger. In all, Publix Charities is donating $25 million to Feeding America partner food banks and other nonprofit partners for hunger-related efforts in 2026.
