Lowcountry Food Bank receives $50,000 donation from Norfolk Southern

June 24, 2025

Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) announced it has been awarded $50,000 in grant funding from Norfolk Southern Corporation to support its mission in the 10 coastal counties that LCFB serves. Through the food distributions supported by Norfolk Southern, we were able to distibute more than 110,000 pounds of nutritious food, including fresh produce to 3,328 households throughout coastal South Carolina.

Mobile food distributions can travel to areas with limited access to grocery stores and food banks, reach remote communities, such as rural areas that have no grocery stores, and are designed to conveniently reach neighbors who need food assistance if transportation barriers are an issue. Mobile distributions enable fast, flexible delivery of perishable food, and they help break down barriers that prevent families, students, seniors and others from getting access to healthy food.

“This funding has an immediate impact on the work we do,” said Nick Osborne, LCFB President and CEO. “We’re thankful to Norfolk Southern for investing in our community and for supporting our mission.”

The grant is part of two community programs launched by Norfolk Southern in 2023: the Safety First Grant Program, which seeks to advance safety organizations and initiatives, and the Thriving Communities Grant Program, which aims to promote economic opportunity, support vibrant community life, and provide equal access to basic necessities. Award recipients are selected annually from across the railroad’s 22-state network.
