Lowe’s Heroes Begins Renovation on USO at Columbia Metropolitan Airport

August 13, 2012

COLUMBIA, SC – August 13, 2012 –  Eight Lowes Home Improvement Stores in Columbia are partnering together this week to renovate the two USO locations inside the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.  The USO South Carolina serves over 70,000 troops and military families annually through the airport.  Troops visiting USO centers are provided a relaxing environment to decompress before beginning Basic Combat Training, deploying to combat zones or traveling for duty around the world.

“Obviously we’re excited to carry on with our relationship with the USO South Carolina from last year.  We’re happy to be supporting troops and their families who support us and keep us safe.  We encourage other businesses to do the same thing.  We hope to have a great turnout and a great project,” said Aaron Austin, Area Product Service Specialist with Lowes.

“The USO South Carolina is very grateful to Aaron Austin of Lowes and Donnie and Peggy Moore with Moore Quality Builders for their passion, commitment and support of the troops.  With the help of Lowes and Moore Quality Builders, the USO South Carolina is able to continue to provide a home away from home for troops and military families,” said Joanie Thresher, Director of USO South Carolina.

Nearly 60 Lowe’s employees will be volunteering their time and talent this week to renovate the two locations inside the airport.

About the USO

The USO (United Service Organizations) lifts the spirits of America’s troops and their families millions of times each year at hundreds of places worldwide. We provide a touch of home through centers at airports and military bases in the U.S. and abroad, top quality entertainment and innovative programs and services. We also provide critical support to those who need us most, including forward-deployed troops, military families, wounded warriors and their families and the families of the fallen.

The USO is a private, nonprofit organization, not a government agency. We rely on the generosity of our volunteers and donors. To join us in this patriotic mission, and to learn more about the USO, please visit uso.org.
