LS3P’s Thompson E. Penney delivers AIA SC Leadership Development Academy Keynote

Thompson E. Penney, FAIA, Chairman|President|CEO of architecture, interiors, and planning firm LS3P, was invited to deliver the Opening Keynote speech for the 2016 AIA SC Leadership Development Academy in Charleston. The event was part of an annual AIA Leadership Institute on November 18, which was held concurrently in five cities across the nation and integrated in-person regional programming with a National Plenary via teleconference. Penney, who joined LS3P as a high school student, spoke on the topic of Design and Business Leadership through the lens of his personal and professional experience.

Under Penney’s leadership, LS3P has grown to a national architectural practice located in the Carolinas and Georgia which is consistently recognized by Engineering News Record and Architectural Record as one of the “Top 50 Architecture Firms in the U.S.” and by Interior Design as one of the “Top 100 Design Giants in America.” Penney served as the 79th National President of the American Institute of Architects in 2003. He has served as Chairman of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, Co-Chair of the Charleston Regional Development Alliance’s Regional Economic Development Strategy, Vice-Chair of The Trident CEO Council and a member of the boards of The Charleston Board of Architectural Review, The Charleston Regional Development Alliance, and the SC Aquarium. He has been honored with the prestigious Joseph P. Riley Leadership Award by the Charleston Metro Chamber and the Award for Ethics and Civic Responsibility by The Free Enterprise Foundation.

The AIA SC Leadership Development Academy is designed to build leadership skills to prepare architects to better serve the industry, the community, and the design and business arenas. The Academy meets monthly from October to April to explore topics such as professional and community service, professional ethics, industry trends, and the future of architectural practice.
