M. Judson Booksellers to Open Second Location in Fountain Inn in June
April 27, 2026One of the Upstate’s most celebrated independent bookstores is expanding its story. M. Judson Booksellers, the literary landmark that has called downtown Greenville home since 2015, will open a second location in Fountain Inn in June, bringing its signature blend of curated books, community, and creative spirit to the Golden Strip.
The original M. Judson Booksellers is nestled in Greenville’s historic courthouse building on South Main Street, where shelves overflow with carefully chosen titles spanning everything from Southern literature and poetry to cookbooks and new releases. The store has grown far beyond a traditional bookstore over the years, adding Camilla Kitchen — a café offering coffee, wine, and locally inspired food — along with Camilla Goods, a line of bookish merchandise, a book subscription service called Letterbox, and TripLit, a literary travel program. What began as a space for book lovers has evolved into a thriving cultural hub that has become one of Greenville’s most recognized independent businesses.
The bookstore takes its name from Mary Camilla Judson, a trailblazing educator born in 1828 who served as the first Lady Principal of the Female College in Greenville. Judson championed learning and literacy for women at a time when those opportunities were severely limited — a legacy that continues to shape the bookstore’s identity and mission.
June Wilcox, the owner and one of the founders ofM. Judson Booksellers, has guided the business through remarkable growth, including the challenges of the pandemic years, which the store navigated through community support, creative pivots, and an unwavering commitment to its readers. The Fountain Inn expansion reflects the store’s long-held belief that independent bookstores strengthen the communities they serve.
“Fountain Inn has such a wonderful combination of history, local pride, and the energy of new growth,” said Wilcox. “We are so excited to be joining this community.”
