Main Street Clinton Awards Fire Fund Grants to 18 Downtown Businesses

May 14, 2025

Main Street Clinton recently announced the distribution of Fire Fund Grants to 18 downtown businesses affected by the aftermath of the August 2024 fire, marking a significant step forward in recovery and revitalization.

Since the Musgrove Fire on August 26, a total of $33,000 has been generously raised through the Fire Fund. In October 2024, five of the six directly affected buildings and businesses each received $2,640. Presbyterian College, which owns 112 Musgrove, requested that their portion be redistributed among the other fire victims. The remaining $20,000 was recently made available to businesses located within the designated fire zone. After receiving 18 grant applications, the Main Street Clinton Board’s grant review committee—comprised of Chair Susan Tallman, Vice Chair Joseph Dyches, and board member Jeff Smith—recommended awarding $1,000 to each eligible applicant. The remaining funds will go toward beautification efforts in the impacted area.

“We’re incredibly proud of the response from our downtown business community,” said Susan Tallman, Chair of Main Street Clinton. “This fund was created to provide some relief after the devastating fire, and while the grants are modest, we hope they serve as a meaningful show of support. We’re also excited to use the remaining funds to enhance the look and feel of the affected area as we continue moving forward together.”

The businesses receiving grants are:

  • Pitts Music
  • Palmetto Realty
  • REI-Jitters Building
  • House of Pizza
  • Aspen & Figs
  • Family Eye Care
  • Kingdom Building
  • Hoyt Hanvey Jewelers
  • Spine & Joint
  • Ruth Rackley
  • Sandy Cruickshanks Attorney
  • The Pasture / 208 N Broad
  • L&L Office Supply
  • Right Touch Beauty Salon
  • Bohemian Color Lounge
  • Crave Clinton
  • Southern District
  • Sunshine City

These businesses represent a wide range of services and retail, and many have played a longstanding role in the life of downtown Clinton.

Main Street Clinton, a newly established downtown revitalization initiative, is currently led by a steering committee of dedicated community volunteers: Susan Tallman (Chair), Joseph Dyches (Vice Chair), Jeff Smith, and Ashley Martin.

“This grant program reflects the heart of Main Street Clinton—supporting our local businesses and working together to build a thriving downtown,” Tallman added.
