Majority Whip Clyburn statement on passage of export-import bank reauthorization

November 18, 2019

House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn Released The Following Statement Today On Passage Of Legislation To Reauthorize The Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank For Ten Years, Increase Its Financing Capacity, And Reform The Agency.

“Manufacturing Is On The Decline In The United States, Which Is Why We Are Doing Everything We Can To Spur Job Growth And Encourage Investment In Businesses Here At Home. The Ex-Im Bank Creates And Expands Opportunities For Small Businesses And Sets Them Up To Be Real Players In The Global Economy By Allowing Them To Grow Their Businesses, Create Jobs, Support Their Community, And Make It In America.

“For Most Of Its Existence, The Ex-Im Bank Was Routinely Reauthorized For Several Years At A Time With Strong Bipartisan Support. Unfortunately, My Republicans Colleagues Are Playing Politics With The Agency And Would Have You Believe That It Only Benefits Large Companies, When In Fact The Vast Majority Of Companies That Utilize The Ex-Im Bank Are Small Businesses. Out Of The 58 Ex-Im Bank Supported Companies In South Carolina, 36 Of Them Are Small Businesses, Many Of Which Are Suppliers. On Top Of That, Only 10 Of The Companies Are In Districts Represented By A Democrat. Republicans’ Refusal To Support This Vital Agency Is Not Only Hindering The Creation Of American Jobs But Jeopardizing The Livelihood Of Their Constituents. I’m Proud To Support The Reauthorization Of The Ex-Im Bank Because It Will Protect Jobs In South Carolina And All Across The Country.”
