Mandy Medlock hired as new Executive Director of the Death Penalty and Defense Center

COLUMBIA, SC – The Death Penalty and Defense Center was created to improve the quality of legal representation offered to criminal defendants facing a death sentence in South Carolina. Today the center’s mission has expanded and with that, a need for executive leadership.
The mission of the Death Penalty Resource and Defense Center is to promote fairness, reliability and transparency in the criminal justice system for people facing the death penalty in South Carolina. We do this through:

Resources, consulting, and other support services for lawyers tasked with the enormous responsibility of representing a capital defendant.

Representing individual clients.

Advocating for policy reforms to address systemic flaws in the capital punishment process.

Educating the public to raise awareness about the administration of capital sentencing in South Carolina.
The Death Penalty Resource and Defense Center is the only organization in South Carolina working to reform criminal justice policies and practices in capital proceedings.
