Manufacturing Quick Jobs Open House Can Open Doors to New Career

GREENVILLE, SC – Greenville Technical College’s Corporate & Career Development Division will host a Quick Jobs Manufacturing Open House on Thursday, October 22 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the Barton Campus in celebration of Manufacturing Month. The Quick Jobs program allows working adults, or those in occupational transition, to quickly obtain skills matching the needs of local business and industry.
The short-term job training programs range in classroom length from a few days of workshops to update skills, to several months, with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in lab and skilled training settings. During the open house, attendees can get information about these short-term career training programs, see live demonstrations of training and equipment in action, and learn about the multiple financial assistance options which can make training free for those who qualify.
“Manufacturing drives the economy in Greenville County, ranking first in Gross Regional Product and first in total earnings for all industries,” said Leslie Trant, dean of Corporate and Career Development. “However, employers in upstate South Carolina often struggle to fill jobs in advanced manufacturing because workers don’t have the right skills to help their companies grow. Our goal is to provide a trained workforce for our manufacturing employers by helping individuals learn about the employment opportunities in manufacturing and how to quickly get started in career paths.”

“The Quick Jobs with a Future program was developed 14 years ago to provide a pathway for individuals in occupational transition to obtain skill sets needed to be marketable in today’s ever changing world,” said Steve Hand, director of Quick Jobs. “Since 2001, more than 30,000 people have received short-term training and gained skills that helped them advance or, in most cases, enter the workforce.”
