Local Partners Supporting Moms and Babies During Thanksgiving

MARCH OF DIMES AND LOCAL PARTNERS COME TOGETHER TO SHINE A LIGHT ON A LEADING ISSUE LEADING TO INFANT LOSS

WHAT: As part of a national and global movement to raise awareness of the urgent health crisis of preterm birth, March of Dimes observes Prematurity Awareness Month in November and World Prematurity Day on Nov. 17 with millions of families, partners and advocates. Local partners have stepped up to highlight this urgent mission as well as encourage families who are spending their Thanksgiving holiday in the NICU unit.

WHY: 15 million babies worldwide – including 1 in 10 in the United States — are born too soon each year. Premature birth is the largest contributor to infant death in our country, and the rate is on the rise for the third year in a row. March of Dimes wants every baby to get the best possible start in life. Throughout the month of November, we’re bringing communities together to honor and support premature babies and their families. Together, we can create solutions that support healthy moms and strong babies not just in November, but all year long.

LOCAL RESPONSE:

This holiday week, all families in the Greenville Prisma Health NICU unit will be receiving Thanksgiving care packages with items from Gerber Childrenswear and Papa Johns. March of Dimes is thankful for our local volunteers at Wilson Kibler who put in the time to put these care packages together! We hope these packages offer a feeling of support from the community while these families face their NICU experience.

In addition to our Thanksgiving project, right here in Greenville, AVX Corporation, and BMW Manufacturing Co have stepped up as Prematurity Awareness Month Sponsors. Garners Natural Life’s two Greenville locations are hosting a 2 week Round Up Campaign to help raise critical funds for moms and babies.

Moms, dads, babies and families in every community and across the country need champions like you now more than ever. As 2020 has taught us, we’re in this together. We can fight to improve maternal and infant health, and together, we can ensure every mom and baby gets the care they need. If you’d like to join us in our efforts here locally, please contact Katie Peden at (864) 551-2640 or [email protected]
