Massive Egg Recall: Over 1.5 Million Dozen Cartons Pulled Over Salmonella Concerns

A major egg producer has issued a voluntary recall covering nearly 1.6 million dozen shell eggs distributed across six states following potential Salmonella Enteritidis contamination.

The recall was initiated by Indiana-based producer Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. (MPS Egg Farms) after proactive environmental testing at two of its Texas facilities flagged potential contamination. As of the recall announcement, no illnesses have been reported in connection to the affected products.

Affected Brands and Retailers

The recalled products include both white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs produced between June 6, 2026, and July 3, 2026. They were shipped to foodservice and retail distributors, appearing on grocery shelves under several popular brand names:

• Kroger

• Simple Truth

• Brookshire’s

• Country Morning

• Sunups

Geographic Distribution

The eggs were sold at Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana, Brookshire Grocery locations across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas, as well as smaller regional independent retailers.

How to Check Your Egg Cartons

Consumers are urged to inspect their refrigerators for affected cartons bearing sell-by or best-by dates between July 20, 2026, and August 17, 2026.

Identifying Codes: Look at the side of the carton for date-coding ink. Cartons subject to the recall will feature:

• Plant Code: P-1950 or 0840962

• Julian Date Range: Between 157 and 184
