Mast General’s Columbia Store to Support Congaree Land Trust through Land Trust Day

June 8, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The Congaree Land Trust (CLT) invites community members to celebrate Land Trust Day and show their support for land conservation by visiting Mast General Store on Saturday, June 6th between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. On this day, Mast General Store will donate 20% of its Columbia store sales to the Congaree Land Trust in support of their land conservation work in the Midlands!

Land Trust Day is a friend-raising event encouraging new membership in local land trusts as well as an educational opportunity to learn how these groups are preserving the natural heritage of South Carolina. Land trust members and staff look forward to a fun day at Mast General Store on Main Street. The Congaree Land Trust will be welcoming new members and invite all members to stop by and sign the CLT member roster to show their support for land conservation. Stuart White, Executive Director of the Congaree Land Trust commented, “We are grateful for the very generous support of Mast General Store who have been wonderful patrons of the Congaree Land Trust since they opened the store on Main Street. We hope that Columbia area residents will stop by and join us in celebration of Land Trust Day!”

The Congaree Land Trust is in its third decade of conserving South Carolina’s scenic lands and now protects 57,381 acres. The work of CLT helps preserve the visual landscape, keep the water and air cleaner by creating buffers around our Central South Carolina river systems, and make it possible for future generations to enjoy the same recreational and agricultural opportunities that we enjoy today. Founded in 1992, CLT works to provide conservation easements to private landowners in a 13-county area of central South Carolina. Studies show that farming, forestry, outdoor recreation and tourism tied to our natural resources contribute about $54 billion to the state’s economy and provide 463,000 jobs. Conservation easements help protect the natural areas that fuel our state’s natural resource based economy and define our way of life.
