“Match to Triumph” campaign announced to benefit local covid-19 relief funds

May 25, 2020

In an effort to bring fans, supporters and the Upstate community together, the Greenville Triumph Soccer Club has announced the “Match to Triumph” in partnership with the United Way of Greenville County. The virtual match is a three-week fundraising campaign for the United Way’s COVID-19 Community Relief Fund. The Triumph is seeking to sell out the club’s home stadium through 4,014 donations to the fund. The campaign concludes on Friday, June 12th with the virtual soccer match being played across the club’s social media platforms.

“This is truly the most important match we’ll ever play,” said Triumph Chairman, Joe Erwin. “As the virus continues to hurt so many in our community, we can retreat and complain about our delayed season, or we can help by attacking the problem head-on. We choose to attack,” he continued. “We are excited to partner with the United Way of Greenville County to raise money for their COVID Relief Fund that is helping so many people in the Upstate. This virtual match will challenge our players, our staff and the whole community to participate in an engaging way while helping those in need at the same time.”

Fans who purchase a $10 virtual match ticket will be included on the team’s Virtual Donor Wall and receive a commemorative match ticket. With every 1,000 tickets purchased, the Triumph score a goal and five random buyers receive a free gift such as merchandise or autographed items. Fans and companies are also able to make saves and score goals as the club hits donation milestones. Additionally, donors who purchase group tickets have a chance to receive a private Zoom dinner with Greenville Triumph players.

Through each donation to the COVID-19 Relief Fund, United Way of Greenville is able to coordinate essential support for the county’s most vulnerable neighbors through programs that include rent and mortgage assistance, PPE for frontline workers and volunteers, meal delivery and additional beds in safe shelters.

The club originally chose the name “Triumph” two years ago as a nod to the spirit of the Upstate that helped the region overcome the economic hardship brought on by collapse of the local textile industry, and the club knows that the moniker means even more now in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
