Mauldin City Officials Take to the Skies for Historic “Freedom Flight” Flyover at Amp’d Up Fridays
July 6, 2026Local leaders and law enforcement took the phrase “public service” to new heights during a special holiday weekend celebration.
Ahead of the Fourth of July, members of the city team participated in a historic flyover for residents gathering at the weekly Amp’d Up Fridays event series. The flight offered a unique kickoff to the weekend’s patriotic festivities.
Flying High in Vintage Style
The “City of Mauldin Freedom Flight” featured several vintage Warbirds—historic military aircraft known for their distinct designs and role in aviation history.
Climbing into the cockpits for the flight were prominent local figures, including:
-
Mayor Terry Merritt
-
Municipal Clerk Cindy Miller
-
Sgt. McLean of the Mauldin Police Department
A Memorable Path Over the City
The flight path was coordinated to bring the historic display directly over the heart of the community’s weekend activity. The aircraft took off just after 6:00 PM and traveled en route to the Mauldin Cultural Center amphitheater, soaring directly over the crowds gathered for the outdoor concert series.
City officials called it an unforgettable experience and shared images of the team alongside the vintage planes on the tarmac ahead of takeoff.
Community members who caught a glimpse of the vintage Warbirds over the amphitheater are being encouraged by city organizers to share their own photos and videos online to help commemorate the event.
