Mauldin Fire Department Earns State ‘Fire Safe Community’ Designation

June 15, 2026

The Mauldin Fire Department has once again secured its status as a designated South Carolina Fire Safe Community, a recognition honoring local departments that demonstrate exceptional commitment to community risk reduction and public safety.

Deputy Fire Marshal Robbie Holloway accepted the award on behalf of both the department and the city during the annual South Carolina Fire-Rescue Conference held in Myrtle Beach.

The designation recognizes local fire departments that go beyond standard emergency response by actively working to mitigate hazards and prevent fires through aggressive public education, data tracking, and community programming.

A Unified Push for Public Safety

To earn the Fire Safe Community distinction, departments must meet rigorous annual benchmarks set by Fire Safe South Carolina. These requirements include educating personnel on advanced risk reduction strategies, maintaining detailed incident data collection, and identifying local high-risk fire patterns to deploy targeted interventions.

Mauldin fire officials emphasized that retaining this status underscores a sustained, collaborative effort across the city’s ranks.

“This achievement underscores the tireless efforts of our staff and partners whose collaboration has been instrumental in advancing fire safety awareness through innovative outreach and partnerships,” the Mauldin Fire Department shared in a statement. “Benefiting both residents and visitors of Mauldin.”

Education Over Emergency

A major component of Mauldin’s ongoing fire mitigation strategy involves deploying life-safety messaging directly to the community. This includes specialized public campaigns focusing on proper smoke and carbon monoxide alarm placement, developing home fire escape routes, and running active public education campaigns throughout the year.

The Fire Safe South Carolina program operates as a statewide, unified task force supported by SC State Fire alongside the state’s primary fire service associations. By maintaining its place among the designated communities, the Mauldin Fire Department ensures its continued access to state-level resources, helping local crews provide smoke alarms and specialized safety evaluations directly to neighborhoods most vulnerable to fire risks.
