Mauldin first responders partner for free prescription drug disposal event on August 29

August 12, 2026

In an effort to keep local households safe and combat prescription drug misuse, the Mauldin Police Department and Mauldin Fire Department are joining forces to host a community Medication Disposal Event later this month.

Scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the drop-off drive will be held at Mauldin First Baptist Church, located at 150 South Main Street. The public health initiative coincides with national observances for Opioid Awareness Day.

Organizers are encouraging residents to clean out their home medicine cabinets and bring any unused, unwanted, or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications for secure, on-site disposal—no questions asked.

Public safety officials emphasize that holding onto unneeded medications presents significant health risks, including accidental poisonings involving young children or pets, as well as the potential for illegal diversion and prescription drug abuse. Additionally, proper drop-off events prevent residents from flushing pills down toilets or tossing them into household trash, methods that can leach chemicals into local waterways and municipal water supplies.

The collection event is free and open to all area residents. For more information on community safety initiatives or municipal updates, residents can visit the City of Mauldin website.
