Max Quinlan departs Greenville Theatre

April 27, 2026

As Greenville Theatre enters its next century of storytelling, the organization announced the departure of Producing Artistic Director Max Quinlan after five years of leadership.

During his tenure, Quinlan led Greenville Theatre through its post-pandemic reopening, oversaw the most fiscally successful productions and seasons in the theatre’s history, helped guide the organization into its 100-year celebration, and supported major facility renovations, including new lighting and sound systems as well as restoration of the stage floor and orchestra pit. Theatre leaders said Quinlan also played a key role in strengthening Greenville Theatre’s community impact and shaping its artistic vision and organizational culture.

Quinlan will depart to become executive producer for Broadway national touring company NETworks Productions. He will begin his new role as executive producer of the 20th anniversary national tour of Jersey Boys.

The Greenville Theatre Board of Directors has appointed current General Manager Aimee Quattlebaum as interim managing director. Quinlan will remain involved with the organization as artistic consultant while the theatre begins its search for new leadership.

“I am forever grateful to this community for the honor, responsibility and trust to lead this theatre company,” Quinlan said. “The people, creativity and shared belief in Greenville Theatre’s mission has inspired me as a leader and artist. Greenville Theatre is a space that celebrates the Upstate community, invites everyone in, shines a spotlight on the incredible local talent, and creates extraordinary entertainment made by Greenville, for Greenville. I am happy to be staying in the area and continuing to raise my family here in Greenville while taking on this new job opportunity.”

Board Chair Carl Sykes thanked Quinlan for his leadership and contributions to the organization.

“Max has led the organization with artistic excellence and integrity,” Sykes said. “We wish him success in his exciting new role as executive producer for Broadway national tours, and we look forward to finding the next great leaders to steward the theatre into the next century of storytelling.”

Greenville Theatre leaders said the organization remains committed to creating professionally produced, locally made theatre and looks forward to building on the momentum of the past five years as it moves into its next chapter.
