Mayor Issues Proclamation to North Columbia Business Association for Small Business Week

May 14, 2014

COLUMBIA, SC –  On Monday, City Councilman Sam Davis presented the North Columbia Business Association (NCBA) with a proclamation on behalf of Mayor Steve Benjamin and Columbia City Council. The proclamation declared the week of May 12 -16 Small Business Week in North Columbia. The announcement came at the NCBA Small Business Week kickoff, held at Vino Garage in North Columbia.

“The North Columbia Business Association has made numerous strides in such a short period of time. And with that comes the focus on the northern part of the city. [We think] that is the kind of effort and the needed partnership that is going to continue to help Columbia become a world-class city,” Councilman Davis said.

NCBA Chairman, Veronica Rodriguez, and Executive Director, Sabrina Odom accepted the proclamation on behalf of the merchant association from Councilman Davis and Mayor Pro Tem, Brian DeQuincey Newman.

Vino Garage owner, Doug Aylard, was excited to host the kickoff at his North Columbia business. He’s hopeful that the week of events will bring some exposure to the area. “I want to encourage people to cross over Elmwood and venture further north down Main Street. They may be surprised at the wide variety of quality and unique businesses we have in this area,” Aylard said.

Aylard’s upscale store sells specialty beer and wine that may not be available in other retail stores. He hopes to expand his shop within the next few months to include a café that offers patio seating.
