Mayor Names New Director Of Department Of Planning, Preservation And Sustainability

CHARLESTON, SC – Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. announced that he has selected Jacob Lindsey to be the new Director of the Department of Planning, Preservation and Sustainability succeeding Tim Keane.  Mayor Riley said, “We received many applications for the position from this region and other parts of our country.  I have determined that the best applicant was someone right here – Jacob Lindsey, who is currently Director of the Design Division.  Jacob is an excellent urban designer; his planning instincts are superb, he communicates extremely well and easily engages with his colleagues and our citizens as well.”

Mayor Riley said that he has been able to see the quality of Jacob Lindsey’s work and feels that it has always been of the highest quality.  Since Lindsey has been a city employee, he is up to date with current projects and plans for the future. The Mayor said that this position will be subject to city council confirmation on August 18.   Jacob will assume the responsibilities as director on August 1st.

Riley commended Yvonne Fortenberry in her role as the Acting Director, adding that she will continue to serve the city and will be of great assistance to Lindsey.

Jacob Lindsey said, “I can’t imagine a better place to practice city planning. Charleston is a world class city, and it’s an honor to serve in this role as we take on future challenges.”
