McCrory Construction breaks ground on $19M senior living center in Upstate

Columbia-based McCrory Construction Company has broken ground on a 197,702 square foot senior living facility in Simpsonville, South Carolina to serve the Upstate’s rapidly growing senior population, company executives have announced.

The developer of the project, named The Crossing at Five Forks, is Smith/Packett Med-Com LLC of Roanoke, Virginia. Smith/Packett and its subsidiary Harmony Senior Services, LLC are premier providers of integrated senior services across America, developing and managing over 150 senior health and residential facilities with an aggregate value in excess of $1.5 billion.

McCrory, headquartered in Columbia, is a leading provider of construction services in the Southeast and has completed over 3,000 general construction, design/build, construction management and partnering projects since its founding in 1918. The Crossing at Five Forks will feature 172 state-of-the-art units including 100 independent living, 48 assisted living and 24 memory care residences to serve the Upstate’s burgeoning senior population. According to Senior Action of Greenville, the organization that serves thousands of Greenville County seniors with programs that improve health, quality of life and financial stability while encouraging community engagement, over 15% (72,000) of the population in Greenville County is now over 62 years of age., Studies project that in ten years, one of every four residents in Greenville will be over 55.

Located within 20 minutes of six Upstate hospitals at 345 Five Forks Road in Simpsonville, The Crossing at Five Forks features multiple dining rooms, therapy rooms, offices and activity areas along with high end finishes and an energy efficient design. Plans also include an onsite theater, pub, fitness center and beauty/barber services. Landscaping plans reveal a large courtyard along with walking paths, lush plants, trees and blooming flowers set in a gazebo garden. The campus-like setting is located in an area highlighted by high-end residential, golf and retail and is easily accessed by SC-296 (Five Forks Road) near its intersection with SC-146 (Woodruff Road).

The Crossing at Five Forks is the second major senior living facility in South Carolina under construction by McCrory for Smith/Packett and Harmony Senior Services. The Crossings at Wescott Plantation located in Charleston will also offer independent living, assisted living and memory residences, and is scheduled for completion in Fall 2016.
