McDaniel listed among Influential Women of Law honorees
April 30, 2025Burnette Shutt & McDaniel co-founder Kathleeen McDaniel is among this year’s recipients of South Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s “Influential Women of Law” award.
The annual program recognizes attorneys for their service to the legal profession and to the community. The program is in its second year. Last year, firm co-founder M. Malissa Burnette was among the honorees in the inaugural class.
Burnette and McDaniel, along with Nekki Shutt, founded the firm in 2017. Since then, the firm’s skilled litigators have fought for clients in state and federal courts on a variety of issues.
McDaniel has been a key part of the legal team on some of the firm’s highest-profile litigation. She, along with Burnette and attorney Grant Burnette LeFever, have long represented Planned Parenthood in the fight for reproductive healthcare rights in South Carolina. This has included challenges to the state’s attempt to stop Medicaid patents from seeking care at Planned Parenthood clinics as well as challenges to the state’s abortion ban.
McDaniel’s practice also includes administrative law and government law. She offers clients a unique skillset that includes a scientific background and experience serving on a government panel. Her work in regulatory law, environmental law, and litigation has been honored by national publications and peers over the years.
