McKay Firm adds two to Insurance Defense practice

The McKay Firm welcomes two new Associates and expand their Insurance Defense practice.

Eric Guimaraes and Makenzie Polston

Eric Guimaraes practices in the areas of general civil defense, governmental defense, and transportation defense. During his time in law school, Eric was a Law Clerk in the Richland County Solicitor’s Office, served as President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, was on the executive board of the Black Law Students Association, and was a student member of the John Belton O’Neall Chapter of the American Inns of Court. Prior to joining The McKay Firm, Eric was an Assistant Solicitor for Richland County where he prosecuted hundreds of cases. Eric is the first member of his family to be born in the United States. His family immigrated to Tallahassee, Florida from Brazil in 1965. Shortly after Eric’s birth in Tallahassee, his family relocated to Columbia where he considers home.

Makenzie Polston, originally from North Augusta, has also joined the firm and practices in the areas of general insurance defense and civil litigation. She graduated Cum Laude from Presbyterian College with a degree in Psychology and a Minor in Spanish. During law school she was a member of the Moot Court Bar and Mock Trial Bar. In her third year of law school, she served as the Associate Justice of Administration for the Mock Trial Bar and competed in mock trial competitions across the country. While in law school, Makenzie clerked for the Children’s Law Center and the McKay Firm. Prior to joining the McKay Firm as an attorney, Makenzie was a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable R. Lawton McIntosh, a South Carolina Circuit Court Judge for the Tenth Judicial Circuit.

Both attorneys received their Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina and are members of the South Carolina Bar Association.
