McMillan Pazdan Smith Announces Dewberry Hotel in Downtown Charleston

April 10, 2012

CHARLESTON, SC – April 10, 2012 – McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, in association with Reggie Gibson of Gibson Guess Architects and BY OTHERS, Ltd, is renovating the Mendel Rivers Federal Building in downtown Charleston into a 155 room luxury hotel. Dewberry Capital bought the building, located on Meeting Street, in 2008 from the General Services Administration.

The 1960s modern building has been sitting dormant since the early 1990s. The Dewberry will be one of the tallest buildings in the city, housing spa, fitness, rooftop pool, lounge and meeting areas along with the hotel living room, bar and signature restaurant. The meeting space is adjacent to an exterior formal garden designed for weddings and special events. The building’s tall, slender windows accentuate the spectacular views of the Ravenel Bridge, the Ashley and Cooper Rivers, downtown Charleston and historic Marion Square.
