McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture Project Awarded National Honor

February 8, 2011

SPARTANBURG, SC – February 8, 2011 – The American Sports Builders Association, a national, non-profit association, specifically supporting the design of athletic facilities, has awarded a Distinguished Facility Award for the Sports Field of the Year to Spartanburg School District Seven and the recently completed Spartanburg High School Athletic Complex.

The athletic facility was designed by McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture with Medallion Athletic Products, Inc.  It is the only South Carolina field, and one of only two in the Southeast, to be recognized on a national level.  Highly competitive judging criteria included consideration for layout and design, site work, drainage, amenities, innovation and overall impression.

It is with great pleasure and excitement that Spartanburg School District 7 has been recognized by ASBA, says Myles Wilson, Spartanburg School District 7’s Operations and Facilities Manager. This facility has allowed Spartanburg High School to partner and collaborate with numerous off campus groups in their pursuit of athletic undertakings. Municipalities, colleges, AAU teams, club teams and the NC/SC Shrine Bowl are just a few groups that have visited our campus since completion of the project.
