Trusted tax and estate planning firm continues growth with new team member

Newsome Law, a solutions-focused tax, estate and trust firm, has hired Meagan MacBean to serve as Special Counsel.

MacBean brings with her six years of experience in legal services. She has worked as a federal law clerk for a United States District Court Judge, as a practicing attorney, and as a Trust Officer during her career in Mississippi. MacBean holds a B.S. in Marketing from Clemson University and a J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law, where she placed third in her class.

“We are so excited to welcome Meagan to our team,” says Billy Newsome, owner of Newsome Law. “Her diverse experience as a federal judicial clerk, trial lawyer and trust officer will be a tremendous asset to our firm. When we learned she wanted to move back to South Carolina to be near her parents during the pandemic, we jumped at the chance to bring Meagan onboard and really enhance our client service.”

As a trial attorney at Glover, Young, Hammack, Walton & Simmons PLLC in Meridian, MS, MacBean practiced in the areas of insurance defense, commercial litigation, product liability, employment litigation, and estate planning and administration. Most recently, MacBean was employed by Trustmark National Bank in Jackson, MS as a Trust Officer, where she provided expertise in trust and estate issues and advised high-net-worth clients in estate planning, asset protection and more.

On why Newsome Law seemed like the right fit, MacBean said “Billy and I are both from small South Carolina towns and it felt like our personalities just matched.” Adding, “I love the atmosphere of a small firm in that it gives you the ability to provide better client service and develop closer relationships with clients,” says MacBean. “I am excited to get back to practicing law, bringing my experience as a Trust Officer with me.”

Originally from Cheraw, S.C., MacBean is happy to be moving back home as she begins her next chapter with her husband, Drew and their dogs. When not in the office, you can find MacBean exploring the local Columbia food scene and livelihood of the Main Street District.
