Medasic Recovery Clinics launch statewide Foundation to combat opioid addiction

January 12, 2023

Medasic Recovery Clinic announced that it has launched a non-profit arm, The Medasic Foundation. The Foundation will provide clients who are combatting opioid addiction with financial assistance to receive services from the six clinics located in the Upstate and Midlands regions of the state. Together, Medasic Recovery Clinic and The Medasic Foundation, aim to increase the number of clients served and expand their community outreach efforts.

“Since opening our first clinic in 2020, we’ve seen more than 1,000 clients for opioid use disorder. While we are a medication-assisted treatment clinic, we know that our clients need help in other ways to combat the addiction,” said Zack Cooper, RN, MSN, Director of Medasic Recovery Clinic. He continued, “Our clients need counseling, ongoing support, and even housing. The Foundation will allow us to reach more people and provide a greater level of services.”

More than 1,700 people died from a drug overdose in South Carolina in 2020, according to SCDHEC. The opioid epidemic continues to grow, and families are being torn apart by addiction. The Medasic Foundation is part of the solution to help people take back their life and heal their family. It takes a village and community partnership is high on the priority list to reach more people in need.

“Recovery starts with all of us. We all know at least one person that is fighting addiction.” Jill McHugh, Executive Director for The Medasic Foundation said. “As a state, as a community, as individuals, we can give hope and healing to someone. The Foundation is on a mission to provide wraparound services to clients so that they can regain control of their life and start their journey to health and well-being.” McHugh, a long-time nonprofit leader, and clinical social worker, previously worked with youth who experienced homelessness and children in foster care. She shared that addiction was frequently the main factor that contributed to a child being in the foster care system or ending up homeless.

The Medasic Foundation will work with the team at Medasic Recovery Clinic and community partners to reach more clients suffering from opioid addiction. The foundation hopes to serve individuals who would not otherwise have access to treatment and resources due to financial constraints.
