‘Medically Speaking’ Series at Lander Examines Evolution, Future of Health Care
January 27, 2025The evolution of health care for the treatment of diseases of the spine and brain, along with the future of health care more broadly, was a topic of interest when physicians from the medical practice, Advanced Spine and Neurological Associates of Self Regional Healthcare, recently discussed the “Evolution of Spine Care” at Lander University.
The program was part of the “Medically Speaking” series, which addresses health issues and care in the Lakelands and is sponsored by Self Regional, Lander and the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce.
Advances in health care delivery, made possible by technology and the use of artificial intelligence (AI), will enable physicians and health care professionals to diagnose diseases earlier and assist in many areas of patient care, the physicians said.
Neurosurgeon Dr. John Cole IV, joined by colleagues Drs. Sumeer Lal and Michael Kilburn, told Lander School of Nursing students, “You are going to see evolutions in your career that will be phenomenal … You are going to have a really interesting career ahead of you.”
Logan Mayer, a junior nursing student from Palm Coast, Florida, said AI is discussed among nursing students. “We already are talking about it and seeing it in practice,” he said. “I want to know more about what AI is going to do for us.”
Mayer said the program piqued his interest in neurosurgery. “Having the best opportunities to succeed put you in the best position to accomplish your goals,” he said. “Hearing from these physicians directly definitely makes a difference in our education.”
