Megan Paris, Assoc. AIA, joins GMK’s Architecture team

GMK announced the hiring of Megan A. Paris, Assoc. AIA, as an intern architect for the firm’s Architecture Division. In this role, Ms. Paris will support all aspects of architectural design project beginning with preliminary drawings and building models through preparation of final construction drawings and coordination with contractors during project construction. Ms. Paris has spent the last four years serving as an architectural intern with multiple firms in the Knoxville, TN, area. Over her career, she has proven to be not only a talented designer adept at BIM, AutoCAD, and other advanced design software, but also offers exceptional skills in client interaction and internal team collaboration. These and other personal and professional skills were recognized in 2015 by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) with a Jason Pettigrew Memorial ARE Scholarship, a prestigious award bestowed to cover the entire cost of the Architect Registration Examination (ARE), as well as relevant study guide materials.

“Megan has already demonstrated strong design skills and professionalism, as well as a commitment to continued development within the architecture profession,” said GMK’s director of architecture Thomas M. Weiland, AIA, NCARB. “We are fortunate to have such an exceptional young design professional join our architecture staff.”

Ms. Paris graduated in 2013 with a bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design. She has also spent an international semester abroad at the Politechnika Krakowska Faculty of Architecture, in addition to completing an urban design mini-term at the Nashville Civic Design Center. Her other achievements include working with local AIA members and public school teachers to create “AIA Think,” a program that illustrates the design process to the students through video, as well as collaborating with local US Green Building Council (USGBC) members to organize “Design Slam,” a community design competition with a focus on a specific neighborhood design issue.
