Midlands Housing Trust Fund receives $250,000 in grants

COLUMBIA, SC – October 17, 2012 – The Midlands Housing Trust Fund, an initiative of United Way of the Midlands, has received over $250,000 in grants from Richland County, the City of Columbia, First Citizens and United Way.  
Richland County and City of Columbia each gave $100,000 to support the Midlands Housing Trust Fund. First Citizens granted $5,000.  All grant funding will go towards the MHTF mission, to create and preserve quality and affordable housing in the Midlands region of South Carolina.
 
“This is something that we feel the Midlands community desperately needs,” said Mac Bennett, President and CEO of United Way of the Midlands, which contributed $50,000 towards the MHTF. “We are extremely pleased to be a part of providing affordable housing to the community, and look forward to seeing the good work MHTF will do.”

The Midlands Housing Trust Fund (MHTF) is a public-private funding partnership to preserve and increase the stock of quality, affordable housing in the region through financing, technical assistance and advocacy. The MHTF serves people who struggle to secure housing including people who work at low and moderate wage jobs earning up to 80% area median income.
