Joseph Bias, Midlands Technical College’s general counsel, has been recognized with a 2022 Legal Elite award from Columbia Business Monthly. In the Midlands region, Bias received the most votes from area attorneys in his category, Education.
As general counsel, Bias oversees all the legal affairs for Midlands Technical College (MTC) including labor and employment law, contracts, federal and state compliance, and Title IX. He also chairs MTC’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic planning initiatives.
Outside of work, Bias can be found coaching high school and law school mock trial teams and teaching the civil litigation capstone course at the University of South Carolina School of Law.
This is the third time Bias has been honored with the Legal Elite distinction, with the first being in 2020. In 2019 he was named the “Young Lawyer of the Year” from the South Carolina Bar Association and has been selected to the S.C. Supreme Court’s “Pro Bono Honor Roll” since 2019.
