Midlands Technical College brings home two awards at Greater Irmo Chamber Gala

Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College won the award for Nonprofit Organization of the Year from the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce.  The award was presented at the Annual Greater Irmo Chamber Awards Night and Gala. Midlands Technical College’s Tom Ledbetter, Associate Vice President for the Center for Entrepreneurial Success and Community Engagement, was selected to receive the Order of the Okra Award at the event.

The Nonprofit Organization of the Year award recognizes an entity that has contributed to the Greater Irmo community through service and education and has filled the needs of the local citizens.

“Since the day the doors opened, we’ve received a tremendously warm welcome from our Irmo neighbors,” says Harbison Theatre Executive Director Katie Fox. “From attendance at our Signature Series events to participation in workshops and educational partnerships, we’ve enjoyed the chance to learn about and with the community. We look forward to continuing to build Irmo as a great place to live, work, play, and visit.”

Rooted in the performing arts, Harbison Theatre offers programs and productions that encourage reflection, examination and discovery; and that provide entertainment, education, and opportunity to professionals, learners, and community members in all stages of life.

Ledbetter was selected for the Order of the Okra Award, which recognizes a business or professional who shows outstanding customer service and employee loyalty while building strong customer relationships.

“No matter where you go, someone has been positively affected by Tom,” said Kerry Powers, President of Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce. “Through his work at Midlands Technical College and as Past Chair of the Irmo Chamber, Tom has made an impact on the community that will be felt for years to come. He has been a mentor and a guiding voice to me in my role as President, and there are probably many of you who have similar feelings.”

The Greater Irmo Chamber Awards Night and Gala is an evening of celebration and recognition for those who support the Greater Irmo Chamber throughout the year.
