Midlands Technical College Foundation receives $40,000 grant from Power:Ed for QuickJobs Workforce Development Scholarships

June 7, 2023

Midlands Technical College (MTC) Foundation has been awarded a $40,000 grant to boost education accessibility and critical job training from Power:Ed, a philanthropy of SC Student Loan Corporation. The funds will support QuickJobs workforce development scholarships.

QuickJobs training programs help close the job skills gap and fill available positions with middle-skilled workers and are designed to provide intensive and complete job training. Lasting from a couple of weeks to a few months, QuickJobs prepare students for careers in business, healthcare, information technology, skilled trades and advanced manufacturing.

“The need remains strong to fund training for South Carolinians who are unemployed or underemployed, so this additional investment from Power:Ed is especially valuable,” said Nancy McKinney, CEO of the MTC Foundation.

Students in QuickJobs certificate programs are not eligible for federal or state financial aid, which creates a barrier for those seeking a solution to quickly re-enter the workforce. The MTC Foundation continues to attract donor support for scholarships for the training and education needed to compete for readily available jobs in the Midlands community.

“Power:Ed is pleased to continue our support of this vital workforce development program and helping ensure students have one less barrier to completing their education and securing jobs with competitive pay,” said Power:Ed Director Claire Gibbons.

In FY2022-23, Power:Ed has awarded 23 grants totaling $900,000 to South Carolina education and career readiness organizations, including the MTC Foundation. Grants are administered quarterly, and the next grant funding deadline is July 1, 2023.
