Midlands Technical College Welding Technology Team wins state championship

Midlands Technical College is celebrating a Welding Technology Team win. This month, the team brought home the SkillsUSA state championship for the first time. The team consists of Shayne Pachas, Charles Zuebert, and Anthony Cole. The three will now advance to the national championship this summer in Atlanta.

Midlands Technical College boasts a state-of-the-art Welding Technology Center on its Airport Campus. Opened in 2021, the building hosts 64 welding bays, multipurpose classrooms, fabrication area, and exterior teaching stations. Welding graduates earn a median salary of $39,315 according to 2022 EMSI data.

In February, MTC hosted the 2023 South Carolina High School Welding Competition. Fifty-eight high school students from 15 high schools across the Palmetto State took part in the competition where welding experts from around the Midlands judges their work in two categories: Fillets and Groove. Winners came from Wagener-Salley High School and Lexington Technology Center.
