The Midlands Technical College Police Department (MTCPD) welcomed its newest officer, William Reiss, following his graduation from the Basic Law Enforcement Class at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA) on Friday, May 22, 2026. During the ceremony, Reiss received the prestigious J.P. Strom Award, presented to him by MTCPD Police Chief Tim Martin.
The J.P. Strom award, named for the longtime chief of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), is presented to the officer with the highest grade-point average in the graduating class. Reiss was a student in the Basic Law Enforcement class No. 856.
Reiss was joined at the ceremony by Midlands Technical College President Dr. Greg Little, MTC Police Chief Tim Martin, and several members of the MTCPD.
“This award reflects Officer Reiss’ dedication, discipline, and commitment from the very beginning of his law enforcement career,” said Martin. “We are proud to have him in our department and look forward to the positive impact he will make on our campus community.”
Reiss’ graduation marks a continued emphasis on training and professional development within the MTCPD.
“One of the most meaningful aspects of higher education is seeing knowledge applied in ways that directly strengthen our communities. Officer Reiss’ achievement at the police academy demonstrates how academic excellence and public service can work hand in hand,” said Little.
